It's an Instrumental Summer.
Taking a cue from my good friend
Brian, I put together a little summer mix and made it available for download for anyone who might be interested. The songs on this mix are jams I've been rockin' for the duration of summer 'o6 so far. You could say I've been a fan of the instrumental/ post-rock/ whatever-you-want-to-call-it stuff lately. 'Hope you enjoy!

Superman Returns (to greatness.)
Superman Returns was incredible! Can Bryan Singer do wrong? This was seriously a great film. No, it was not "better" than Batman Begins... but it had this different kind of greatness to it. The Batman film was badass and finally gave us a faithful representation of the character whereas this Superman film took you back to the first two films and made you a kid again. It made you root for this character and maybe even get inside his head and heart for a bit. Also, like Batman Begins, Superman Returns was a GOOD FILM with an engaging story. It wasn't just some hokey comic book action film. It was quite "emotional." I was quite surprised by how much I enjoyed Kate Bosworth's performance. Like, really enjoyed. And the kid actor in the movie was so awesome and... I'll say it, adorable. Without being cheesy.
Now for the geek aspects... The IMAX experience was definitely cool. Like Batman Begins... you felt like you were IN the movie and all the cool action stuff and sound stuff and things that were supposed to surprise and amaze you did just that. The 3D scenes were ok... not bad; not great. I should clarify by saying the 3D aspect of certain scenes. The scenes alone were great and would probably be almost as amazing without the 3D effect. I really dug a lot of the flying stuff. The first action sequence with Supes in it was pretty badass. You felt some of the "emotion" in the action or the motivation behind what Superman is trying to accomplish in this scene. The special effects were not overboard at all... very tasteful, if you ask me.
GO. SEE. THIS. FILM.
I know that I will go see it again. I was expecting to be OK with seeing it once in the theatres. Nope. To quote Lex Luthor, "WRRRRRONGG!!!!!"
the new frontier
'two very cool bits of news about one of my favorite stories by one of my favorite illustrators,
Darwyn Cooke.
The most interesting being a
rumored animated version of the story being produced by
Bruce Timm and co. for a direct-to-DVD release. This seems like a very likely collaboration in that Darwyn Cooke worked for Timm.
Also, The New Frontier will be released in DC's new "
Absolute Edition" format in October
move over pitchfork
'found this gem of a site while surfing today. Even the name of the site is cooler (and very appropriate to my tastes.)
I have to register for a Math class now... BOOO!
tickets of the flying kind
Superman! On IMAX! Hell yes! Several co-workers, the lady and I will be witnessing this treasure in all of it's gigantor screen and 3-D goodness.
I've also purchased airline tickets for us to go to Chicago and surprise my mom the weekend of July 21 through 23. While there I also hope to catch the amazing Dianogah at The Hideout on the 22nd. Any time I get to go "home" is good though.
various positives and negatives equals my life
[+] The wife and I made a trip to various parts of Alabama last weekend including a stop at the US Space and Rocket Center. Click on the image above to see some pics.
[-] I was supposed to start school last Tuesday but the class I enrolled in ended up being cancelled. And my "advisor" hasn't exactly been very helpful. Not in the least.
[+] I returned my books for my cancelled class and ended up buying Adobe Creative Suite 2 bundled with Macromedia Studio 8 for a pretty decent price.
[+] 'sort of "rediscovered" the band Dianogah and have been listening non stop. Why this band hasn't stuck with me the entire time is baffling, considering a)how incredibly good they are and b)how similar the music I've been "writing" is to this band.
[-] 'trying to figure out what the hell I should do about school. One would assume I should just try re-registering for the fall. There is indeed that option... But in light of other building developments that may not be the best option. I shall keep the two or three of you reading this up to date.
In the mean time... Live life, enjoy art, connect with your fellow man and listen to
Dianogah!

meat-and-three
One thing I love about living in Nashville is the assortment of
meat-and-threes. Today Timothy and I randomly decided to try a place called
Arnold's. Manna from heaven! I had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beens, salad, sweet tea and the best damn corn bread ever! To think I've been driving right passed this place for over a year! It's just a skip down 8th from where we work. Arnold's will
defintely be frequented more often.
